FIELD: power-plant engineering, mainly manufacture of aero-engines. SUBSTANCE: control of radial clearance between rotor blade tips and housing of turbomachine is effected by axial shift of rotor relative to housing. First, parameter inside engine characterizing axial shift of rotor is measured and threshold magnitude of this parameter corresponding to required radial clearance at which coolant is fed to surface of turbomachine shaft is determined. Then required degree of preheating the coolant is determined depending on parameter inside engine, physical quantity of preheating the coolant is calculated which is compared with required degree of preheating the coolant and according to results of comparison, rotor is shifted relative to housing through change of flow rate of coolant.
