FIELD: testing and measuring instruments. SUBSTANCE: calibrated pulses are fed to pair of spectral windows of automatic gain control (AGC) circuit of analyzer amplifier and gain factor of amplifier is stabilized with reference to relation of pulse counting rate in spectral windows of automatic gain control circuit. Spectral reference mark is formed on sample with no radiation of spectral line to be analyzed. This reference mark is formed with the aid of pulse generator in energy band of photopeak of emitted spectral line. Then spectral line and spectral reference mark are moved to head of energy band most away towards high energies. Pairs of spectral windows of reference marks are adjusted so that difference in counting rates or mismatch potential should be equal to zero. Then sample to be measured is introduced and change of gain factor is worked out in response to mismatch signal of spectral and indicator reference marks. After that mismatch potential or counting rates in indicator windows are measured to determine intensity of spectral line and content of element emitting this line. EFFECT: improved accuracy of measurements. 3 cl, 3 dwg
