FIELD: improving wear resistance of metals. SUBSTANCE: a mixture of ferropowder and nitrogen is conveyed to alloying zone. Prior to entering the alloying zone the mixture is passed through alternating magnetic field and electric discharge zone. The action of alternating magnetic field ensures activation of the surface of powder and saturation with nitrogen. Nitrogen is disintegrated into atoms under the action of electric discharge. As a result, only atomic nitrogen and saturated activated powder are conveyed to the alloying zone whereby the workpiece surface is activated with atomic nitrogen. The process of alloying proceeds when the workpiece surface is exposed to electric discharges and magnetic field accompanied by vigorous chemical reactions thanks to activation of powder and workpiece. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of the method. 1 dwg
