FIELD: welding. SUBSTANCE: electron gun 1 forms electron beam 18 system 2 focuses beam in focal spot 20, and by means of deflecting systems 3, 4, beam is refracted in two levels forming convergent sweep under action of signals from generator 5. Point 19 of convergence of sweep is located in welding pool, its position being adjusted by applying voltage from unit 14 to control inputs of analog multipliers 12, 13. Position of focal spot 20 is set by voltage of bus 16 supplied to input of controlled source 15 through summer 17. Focal spot is set within limits of lower edge of workpiece to be welded and point of convergence of beam sweep. As control voltage from beam convergence point setting unit 14 is supplied to second input of summer 17, in case of change in position of convergence point 19 in depth of welding pool, position of focal spot is changed synchronously which guarantees location of focal spot within the limits of lower edge of workpiece to be welded and point of convergence of beam sweep.
