FIELD: removal of scale from surfaces of metal products. SUBSTANCE: method involves placing metal products into bath containing alkali melt; creating variable magnetic field for heating melt; heating alkali melt and maintaining operating temperature in two stages. At the first stage a plurality of variable magnetic fields through bath height is generated, with adjacent magnetic fields having opposite flux direction. At the second stage magnetic field is alternatively created in upper and lower parts of bath, with frequency of alteration of magnetic fields being equal to frequency of current supplied. Apparatus has bath, inducer with winding formed as parallel sections disposed one above the other through bath height and ac current source. Bath is made from ferromagnetic material and is formed as inducer core. Winding sections are wound in series around bath. EFFECT: increased efficiency in removing scale from metal products. 3 cl, 6 dwg
