FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: a reactor is charged with an intermediate product of synthetic fatty acid production: secondary unsaponified or a mixture of secondary unsaponified with the stillage rasidue of the alphol-process. While stirring an aqueous solution of manganese sulfate is added in a 1:(0.67-1.0) or (0.67- 1.5) weight ration respectively. A 40-44% soda alkali solution is poured in. The mixture is stirred at 85 C for 15 minuted and allowed to settle for 20 minutes. The lower awueous layer of sodium sulfate is separated from the fatty layer. A solution of a sodium component of soda alkali or soda soaps of C5-C9 carboxylic acids is added to the fatty layer. The resulting catalyst is used for the oxidation of paraffin. The characteristic of the catalyst: the degree of recovery of manganese from the aqueous solution: 99.0-99.7%. EFFECT: improved properties of the catalyst. 2 tbl
