FIELD: foundry, press-forging and metallurgy; cleaning of metal abrasives (shots) from sand, scale, etc. SUBSTANCE: capacity of separator is adjusted to suit operating conditions at constant thickness of material layer to be separated on separator working surface and constant magnetization force of unit. Adjustment is done in steps by use of one or several similar-type electromagnetic system units. Charging device has guide plates to provide uniform distribution of material to be treated on separator working surface. Capacity is steplessly adjusted by changing speed of separator drum within preset range of 0.25-2.25 rpm. For this purpose rows of slots are made over drum length in direction of its Generatrix. Each slot in row is arranged opposite to one of magnetic system interpolar clearances, its length being not less than value of clearance. At three rows of slots are arranged over pole surfaces. Rows of slots re-distribute paths of eddy currents which do not materially influence the process of separation within preset speed range. EFFECT: enhanced quality of separation. 2 cl, 4 dwg
