FIELD: demonstration devices and educational appliances on physics. SUBSTANCE: device for demonstrating brachisto- and tautochronous properties of cycloid has an inclined bed, three plates of identical thickness disposed on the bed, two demonstration balls having identical physical properties, side edges of the three plates being guides for the balls. One plate with side edge in the form of a cycloid arch is rigidly fixed to the bed in a spaced relationship. The second plate identical to the first one is attached to the first plate such that their cycloidal side edges are disposed directly one over another. The third plate having a side edge of non-cycloidal shape (arbitrary) is situated in the gap between the bed and first plate and capable of rotating about the axis. The non-cycloidal guide is rotated about one of the screws coupling cycloidal plate with the inclined bed. The plates have thickness which is less than a diameter of the demonstration ball.
