FIELD: metal welding equipment. SUBSTANCE: machine for welding a rod to a plate has the stationary table 27 for mounting the plate 26 and fixing it by movable stoppers 28. The rods 23 are being placed normally relative to the plate 26, and they are being clamped between jaws, mounted on an armature and on a body of the electromagnet 19 due to energization of the last. Upon energizing the welding-current transformer 25 and the electromagnets 9, 4, the levers 11, 16 rotate around axles 12, 15 respectively, raising a welding head by a predetermined value. If upon separation of the rod from the plate 26 an arc is not being excited, then the electromagnet 4 de-energizes and the welding head descends by its own gravity to an initial position (for short circuiting), at which the electromagnet 4 is being automatically energized, and again by raising the welding head the rod is being drawn off the plate. If upon separation of the rod from the plate the arc is excited, then the electric arc. In a predetermined time period the welding current transformer 25 and the electromagnet 4 are being deenergized, the welding head descends by its own gravity force, providing an upsetting of the rod. EFFECT: enhanced reliability of welded joint. 1 cl, 2 dwg
