FIELD: pulp thickening. SUBSTANCE: vertical thickener has: square-type body with pyramidal bottom; partitions, between which packages of parallel plates with water-collecting chambers and water discharge are mounted; water collecting chutes; feeding pipe; carrying off and discharging pipes; loading cylinder with tangential inlet, perforated partition and conical deflector. Vertical thickener has apparatus, made in the form of cone or pyramid with air withdrawing pipe at vertex and located over loading cylinder, that ensures collection and withdrawal thickener trapped air into atmosphere. As a result it prevents making pulp turbid by concentrated outbursts of air and provides high quality of pulp liquid phase purification. Decrease of thickener total area is achieved by due to minimum width of water discharging chutes, increase of water discharging front of water collecting chambers and lowering of their bottom mark, inclination of thickener loading plates to one side and usage of cavities between side walls of pyramidal bottom to locate collectors. Decrease of vertical size of thickener is achieved due to absence of transitional area from bottom to body. EFFECT: enhanced efficience. 2 cl, 3 dwg
