FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: steel melting furnace uses regenerator checkers made in the form of vertical walls having through horizontal flues over their entire area and forming vertical square-shaped flow sections. The width of one row of flow sections adjoining the slag chambers relates to the width of the other flow sections as 1:(0.25 to 0.67). An additional row of flow sections, having a width equal to the width of the flow section adjoining the slag chambers can be made along the length of the checkers. During the whole campaign the flow sections with an enlarged width are not blocked up with welting dust, which provides stable operation of the furnace up to its shut-down for cold repair. EFFECT: more intensified and uniform heating of blown air during the whole campaign reduces consumption of fuel for the production process. 2 cl, 5 dwg, 1 tbl
