FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method for heating soaking pit with burner in bottom center consists in formation of free flame with periodically varied length by acting with air jets on flame and flame swirling along the tangent and generating line with preservation of total flow rate of gas and air constant. Flame swirled by air jets is supplied to the surface of pit cover with coating occupying its center area part which presents ellipse truncated by pit end walls and featuring emissivity factor determined by formula given in the invention description.
