FIELD: agriculture; poultry farming. SUBSTANCE: method involves sampling in the limits of the physiological norm of embryonic development of perching ducks at an interval of 24 h. Ducklings are selected for liveweight and conformation. Males whose embryonic development period (EDP) is 33- 34 days and 34-35 days are selected for reproduction, and at the age of 17- 18 weeks in the same groups males are additionally selected for duration of their hypnotic response (HR) from 0 to 180 sec and from 180 to 360 sec. Birds showing responses other than the aforesaid are culled. The EDP and HR homogeneity of the community is maintained for the entire period of use. Birds showing EDP longer than 35 days with HR in excess of 360 sec are not used for breeding purposes. EFFECT: higher reproductive ability of initial forms; higher hybrid heterosis liveweight and feed conversion effect. 3 tbl
