FIELD: shaping multibeam directivity patterns of radar and sonar receiving antennas, including echo sounding for ocean investigations. SUBSTANCE: method involves reception of signal by means of planar antenna array, sampling of output signals from array antennas, and two-stage shaping of directivity pattern beams separately in bearing and elevation planes, setting of angles ψ and q in bearing and elevation planes, respectively; along with sampling, directivity pattern beam for angle j is shaped and antenna array is corrected for angle q, whereupon set of beams is shaped in elevation plane and then readings of complex signal envelope for each set of beams are separated.
