FIELD: forestry and wood-working industry, in particular, sawing of logs into boards. SUBSTANCE: method involves making recess and separating one part of wood block (board) from the other by plate with sharpened cutting edge. During stabilized cutting process, recess side wall profile is imparted form providing reduced required cutting and feeding force. Apparatus has cutting plate mounted for longitudinal movement in guides on apex of wedge positioned behind cutting plate in recess between wood block parts to be separated one from the other. Wedge is provided with front facet having profile providing gap between cutting plane of separated wood part and front facet of cutting plate and wedge.
