FIELD: thickening and classification of slurries and water clarification. SUBSTANCE: the offered thin-layer thickener includes body, receiving-and-distributing chamber with receiving funnel, discharge device with outlet, separation chamber consisting of upper and lower modules with packs of inclined ribbed plates, with distance between them in the lower module is larger than in the upper module. Secured to the lower module at definite intervals determined by experimental testing is receiving-and- distributing chamber and vertical chamber accommodating distributing pipes for supply of ascending flow of water. Attached from below to vertical chamber is chamber of collection of heavy component. The latter is connected with removable accumulating vessel. Initial slurry is subjected to separation in the lower and then, in the upper modules. The offered location of receiving-and-distributing chamber makes it possible to uniformly distribute the flow in height of lower module, and prevents some part of flow of initial slurry to come to the upper module and to collector of heavy component to bypass the lower module.
