SUBSTANCE: product: 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid of empirical formula C8H6O3Cl2, m. p. is 138-138.5 C, yield is 88% or 4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid of empirical formula C8H5O3Cl2, m. p. is 149-150 C, yield is 85.7%. Reagent 1: phenoxyacetic acid. Reagent 2: elemental chlorine. Reaction conditions: in medium of glacial acetic acid at 60-65 C in the presence of acetic anhydride or mixture of acetic anhydride and chlorinated hydrocarbon and sodium chloride followed by crystallization at 8-13 C.
