FIELD: mining industry. SUBSTANCE: method can be used when developing fire-risky coal seams for detecting fires in hard-to-reach places of worked-out space of mines. According to method, test holes are drilled from surface into worked-out space of emergency section and these holes are incased with metal tubes. Distance between holes over seam descent and length is taken within 40-60 m. Measured by means of psychrometer is relative air humidity coming from worked-out space through aforesaid holes. Obtained values of relative air humidity are compared with relative air humidity of mine atmosphere in worked-out space of same coal seam in sections where there is no fires. Boundaries of ENDOGENOUS fire source are determined according to reduced relative humidity of air coming from holes, and center of source - - according to minimal relative air humidity.
