INSTALLATION FOR ASSEMBLING AND WELDING OF PANELS WITH CROSS SET OF STIFFENING RIBS Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: shipbuilding, mechanical engineering and industrial engineering. SUBSTANCE: installation has movable gantry 1 with self-propelled truck 2 carrying telescopic rods 3 installed for turning through 360 degrees around vertical axis, crossmember 4 suspended from rods, with welding equipment 5 and guide racks 6 on which multiple-arc welding modules are installed for movement and automatic downhand welding of corner joints. Additional quick-release crossmember 9 is suspended from crossmember 4 on flexible hangers. Crossmember 9 has mechanical or electromagnetic grips 10 for sheet designed for forming panels or grips on rigid hangers for displacement and orientation of stiffening rib sections, placing them on and pressing to panels. Installation has detachable suspended local control station 8 to control movement of crossmember 4. Welding modules have quick release electrode wire hose holders and automatic to semiautomatic change-over system. Installation provides gripping, transportation, orientation and placing sheets, putting stiffening ribs on sheets and assembling metal sheets into panel by electric tacking, assembling panels with cross set of stiffening ribs, multiple-arc automatic downhand welding of cross set corner joints and multiple arc semiautomatic welding of butt, and vertical joints and sections of horizontal corner joints nonaccesible at automatic welding.
