FIELD: water treatment; environmental control. SUBSTANCE: proposed method is based upon using special modified, finely divided, bloated powder produced by grinding bloated pearlite in 1- to 5%-aqueous solution of polyethylhydrosiloxane until minus 50 mcm fraction reaches 40-70% of entire powder. Finally latter is subjected to drying. Powder thus-produced is strewn all over oil spots floating on water surface, followed by collecting oil-impregnated powder and by filtering oil-free water. Powder is easily separated from water to be decontaminated. EFFECT: high efficiency of water purification. 1 tbl
