PROCESS DETERMINING NATURAL VARIETIES OF ASBESTOS Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: study of materials. SUBSTANCE: process determining natural varieties of asbestos involves selection of samples, shredding of samples by shearing fibres to length not exceeding 2.0 mm, their wet rubbing to powder in the course of 2 min, dilution of sample with water and preparation of suspension with mass proportion of solid and liquid phases equal to 1:1000-1400, determination of rate of sedimentation of suspension particles and evaluation of variety of asbestos by it. Ratio of linear value of sedimentation of solid phase during 3-5 min to height of aqueous solution of asbestos by start of test is assumed as rate of sedimentation. Value of given ratio equal to 20-40% corresponds to rigid asbestos, 47-50% to soft asbestos, 51% and higher-to soft asbestos of different degree of weathering.
