FIELD: varnish-and-dye industry. SUBSTANCE: composition (enamel) constitutes a suspension of pigments in solution of low-viscosity varnish colloxylin, glyptal resin, glycerol ester of colophony, thermoplastic polyurethane, and plasticizers in mixture of organic solvents. Enamel is prepared in vertical mixers with blade or rotor-jet stirrers by way of dissolving all components in solvents at ambient temperature. Enamel coating has improved mechanical characteristics, good brightness, good adhesion for metal. It is resistant against hostile media and water, atmosphere-resistant in moderate climate conditions for at least 5 years. Owing to improved hiding property and increased solid residue, enamel consumption on one-layer coating is 30-40% less as compared with existing nitrocellulose enamels and, upon drying, releases 1.8 times less volatile solvents. Enamel can be applied on objects using all techniques, including electrostatic spraying. In the latter case, fire safety is provided thanks to included incombustible plasticizer and solvents with elevated flare temperature. Enamel is appropriate for use as protective and decorative coatings for metal and wood surfaces both in interiors and in outdoor conditions. EFFECT: improved consumer qualities. 3 tbl
