METHOD FOR EVALUATING EXTENT, TO WHICH ANTISEPTICS, TAKEN IN COMBINATIONS, MUTUALLY ENHANCE THEIR ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

Abstract RU 2107292 C1

FIELD: microbiology; experimental chemotherapy. SUBSTANCE: antiseptics used as ingredients of combinations are taken in maximum threshold doses in mcg/ml which are non- bacteriostatic for test microbe. Antiseptics-ingredients are titrated separately by method of serial dilutions in culture medium. Same procedure is used to determine non-active doses, followed by making quantitative analysis to presence of synergism phenomenon in activity of antiseptics, as witnessed by suppression of microbial growth in medium containing mixture of substances under test in concentrations corresponding to non-active doses. Next, identical procedure is repeated with minimum bacteriostatic doses (mcg/ml) of substances titrated in presence of another substance taken in non-active dose, then vice versa. With this approach, it becomes possible to express quantitatively for each substance extent, to which substances mutually enhance their activities by determining relationship between activity of given substance taken in non-active dose and activity of same substance taken in minimum bacteriostatic dose. EFFECT: enhanced antimicrobial activity.
