In addition system has controlled digital input-output lines D10 130 which are necessary for control of large number of different types of telephone sets 116. Preferred device design involves control of functions of relay, ring, TX, RX and controlled D10 lines by means of software in modem under control of software of computer 104. Preferably user uses computer software 108 for setting type or model of telephone set 116 which is used with modem 110. Modes of RX, TX, single-terminal and ring lines are either enabled or disabled.
