FIELD: direct thermal-to-electric energy conversion. SUBSTANCE: linear MHD channel has its electrode and/or insulating walls 2 and 1, respectively, made in the form of cone-shaped hollow bodies of revolution with varying cone angle. Hollow bodies revolve about their longitudinal axes located in symmetry planes of MHD channel or in plane perpendicular to magnetic field vector for electrode walls, or in plane parallel to this vector for insulating walls. Outer surfaces of conical bodies of revolution function as fire surfaces. Optional version has its revolving walls formed by inner surface of one cone-shaped hollow body of revolution with varying cone angle. Surface of body of revolution forms electrode or insulating walls. Axis of revolution is aligned with longitudinal axis of MHD channel. Two other walls of channel are motionless and located inside hollow body of revolution. Length of revolving walls inside MHD channel in direction of revolution makes up 10-30% of total length of circumference of revolution in given cross- sectional area of channel. EFFECT: reduced cross-sectional area of channel; reduced centrifugal acceleration; full suppression of electrochemical processes inside electrode walls and at their boundary with plasma. 2 cl, 4 dwg
