FIELD: hydrogenation catalysts. SUBSTANCE: hydrogenation catalyst is that of Raney nickel type activated by at least one element from IIb, IVb, and VIIb groups. Catalyst is distinguished by that its precursor is practically completely devoid of activating element before alkali treatment and its aluminum content expressed in its weight ratio to nickel is blow or equal to 6%, preferably 5%, and still more preferably 2.5-4.5%. EFFECT: increased activity, selectivity, and stability with simultaneously simplified preparation procedure. 23 cl, 2 tbl, 25 ex
