FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to synthesis of monomer - vinyl chloride from ethane. Method is based on an oxychlorination reaction in reactor for an oxychlorination in the presence of an oxychlorination catalyst. Catalyst consists of copper salt and alkaline metal salt applied on an inert carrier. Catalyst has copper, potassium and cerium preferably at ratio, wt.-%: 1.3 : 3.4 : 0.74. Process is carried out in excess of gaseous hydrogen chloride at 400-550 C. Then vinyl chloride is removed from reaction products and by-side unsaturated chlorine-containing substances are hydrogenated in the presence of hydrogenation catalyst at 20-250 C and recirculated into an oxychlorination reactor.
