FIELD: gasoline production. SUBSTANCE: method involves gas- chromatographic analysis of individual hydrocarbon composition of gasoline and determination of octane numbers of hydrocarbons constituting gasoline. For that, coefficients of common effect of gasoline hydrocarbons when interact with air oxygen are predetermined and then octane number of each hydrocarbon in gasoline is evaluated according to motor method, molar content of each hydrocarbon is calculated, and data obtained are used to determine octane number of gasoline on the whole. Relative deviation of octane number values thus determined from values determined by standard procedure do not exceed 2.5%. EFFECT: increased determination accuracy. 3 tbl
