FIELD: transport engineering; engine starters. SUBSTANCE: starter of internal combustion engine has electric motor with stator and rotor with magnetic pole systems, drive pinion mounted on rotor shaft for meshing with flywheel ring gear when axial position of pinion is changed, and pull- back spring. Drive pinion is secured on rotor shaft, and shaft is installed for longitudinal displacement under action of pull-back member, when motor is switched off, through distance corresponding to shaft of rotor pole, relative to stator pole, less than half of length of stator pole and for setting it nonshifted position by magnetically pulling-in rotor poles, with simultaneous rotation of rotor, into space between rotor poles, when electric is switched on. Pull-back member is made in form of spring. EFFECT: simplified design of starter, enhanced reliability in operation, reduced energy consumption. 2 cl, 2 dwg
