FIELD: waste preparation, more particularly purification and softening of drinking water both under domestic and field conditions. SUBSTANCE: method comprises adding certain doses of tripotassium phosphate prepacked in dust-moisture proof envelope to water of higher hardness. Doses are used in the form of powder or aqueous solutions of agent after they have been removed from envelope. Consumption of tripotassium phosphate varies from 0.10 to 0.21 g/l of the water to be treated, anhydrous agent being used in amount of 0.10-0.15; g/l, and heptahydrate salt in amount from 0.14-0.21 g/l. Method makes it possible to reduce hardness by 3-4.5 mg-equiv/l. EFFECT: more efficient softening method. 3 cl, 1 ex, 1 tbl
