FIELD: metallurgy, namely continuous metal casting. SUBSTANCE: apparatus includes mold having two pairs of oppositely arranged walls restricting working cavity enlarged upwards. At first metal is poured into mold when first pair walls of mold are completely drawn one with another for achieving level "h0" of melt. Level "h0" is related with height "H" of working cavity enlarged upwards with relation ho=(0.2-0.25)H. Then mold is operated and strip is deformed. At operation of mold level "h1" of melt is sustained in range h1= (0.25-0.9)H depending upon desired thickness of strip. Before filling mold with melt apexes of eccentrics of mean portions of eccentric mutually parallel horizontal shafts are placed in the same plane in such a way that they are turned one to another. First-pair working walls of mold are moved along inclined plane of support until drawing together vertical lower portions of working surface. Strain-gauge pickup for measuring pressure is set in inclined upper portion of working surface. Optical pickup for detecting melt level is placed in front of mold mouth. Both pickups are connected with system for automatic control of melt state. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of process and improved operational reliability of apparatus. 4 cl, 2 dwg, 1 ex
