FIELD: methods and devices for production of purified terephthalic acid from its liquid dispersion containing impurities in the form of unreacted initial materials, solvents, byproducts and/or other objectionable materials. SUBSTANCE: method includes stages of dispersion filtration to form filter cake of raw terephthalic acid, dissolving of filter cake in solvent of selective crystallization at elevated temperature with formation of solution, crystallization of purified terephthalic acid from solution in solvent of crystallization by temperature decreasing of solution and separation of crystallized terephthalic acid from solution. Solvent of selective crystallization is anhydrous, noncorrosive and does not react in principle with terephthalic acid. Solvent of selective crystallization is preferably used in the form of N-methyl pyrrilidone. Method and device allow production of purified terephthalic acid having purification degree desired for use in formation of polyesters and other products. EFFECT: economically efficient method and device with not complicated operating conditions, low capital investment and simplified treatment. 36 cl, 3 dwg, 7 tbl, 1 ex
