FIELD: optical lens microscopes. SUBSTANCE: the microscope optical system has an objective lens, eye-piece and a lens barrel; the lens barrel is made negative and installed in such a manner that its front focal plane is shifted from the rear focal plane of the objective lens towards the microscope eye-piece, and its principal plane is shifted from the plane of the image formed by the objective lens towards the object side. The lens may be installed for axial movement. EFFECT: enhanced "working distance-magnification" compound characteristic of the microscope. 2 cl, 8 dwg, 1 tbl
