FIELD: chemistry of polymers. SUBSTANCE: caprolactam is prepared by oligomers and/or polymers which contain predominantly recurring link -[-N(H))-CH2)5-C(O)-]- in the presence of heterogeneous catalyst at elevated temperature for 140 to 820 C in organic solvent selected from alcohol or polymer. Heterogeneous catalyst is titanium dioxide. Water is added into reaction zone, and energy consumption is thus reduced. EFFECT: more efficient preparation method. 5 cl, 1 tbl
