FIELD: automatics, namely devices for measuring and monitoring position and movement distance of moving objects in control systems. SUBSTANCE: converter is based upon magnetostriction waveguide. One end of waveguide is secured to reflective strut and its other end is fastened by means of buffer. Pulse of electromagnetic induction of electroacoustic transducer caused by driving electric current is used as exciting pulse. Forward and reflected pulses are used as information pulses. One-line system for forming measured interval provides time interval filled with pulses of reference generator. Pulses of said generator are read by means of counter. Microprocessor sets operation mode and conversion algorithm. Converter may operate in modes providing high reproducibility of its static characteristics at changing environment temperature and at natural aging of waveguide or it provides enhanced responsibility when there is no need of high accuracy conversion.
