FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to synthesis of nonionogenic surface- active substances, in part, hydroxyethylated monoalkyl- -phenols based on propylene (neonol) trimers. Process is carried out by mixing monoalkylphenols with 20-36% sodium hydroxide an aqueous solution taken in the amount providing sodium hydroxide concentration in monoalkylphenols feeding for hydroxyethylation in the range 0.10- 0.24 mas. %. Obtained mixture is dehydrated at 120-145 C in film evaporator unit followed by carrying out the process of hydroxyethylation at 160-200 C and 0.4-0.7 MPa in reactor of periodic working at circulation of reactive mass through an external heat exchanger. For dehydration a mixture of alkylphenols and sodium hydroxide an aqueous solution are fed at temperature equal or less by 1-9 C that in film evaporator unit.
