FIELD: motion-picture and photographic equipment. SUBSTANCE: method can be employed to control position of motion-picture or photographic film in process of shooting, copying, projection and montage. Method is realized by movement of film section through clearance between waveguides placed uniaxially and by transmission of acoustic vibrations through perforated holes. Waveguides arranged on one side of film are connected to at least one source of acoustic vibrations. Acoustic vibrations passed through film are recorded by transducer of acoustic vibrations. Two groups of waveguides, as minimum, are formed from waveguides located on opposite side of motion-picture or photographic film, waveguides of each group are connected to one transducer. Waveguides in each group are placed with spacing multiple of spacing of perforated holes and are displaced with reference to waveguides of any other group by distance multiple of 1/3 of spacing of perforated holes. EFFECT: increased reliability and accuracy of determination of position of film, possibility to detect defects in film and their location. 3 cl, 4 dwg
