FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: drilling unit is equipped with transmitter of movement of drilling tool, pickup measuring active power consumed by electric motor of drive and controller with computer. Section of examined concrete is wetted for some time prior to sampling with the aid of drilling tool and surface strength of concrete with due allowance for its wetness is found by means of one of known instruments and is entered to storage of computer. Then drilling unit is placed at this section and is set in operation with constant load on drilling tool. In process of sample taking by drilling there are simultaneously measured power consumed by drilling, value and speed of displacement of drilling tool which are processed by computer by way of comparison of obtained data with known surface strength of concrete entered in storage of computer with issue of data in the form of graphs of power, displacement and speed of drilling tool characterizing strength of concrete and graph characterizing strength of one concrete layer at a time.
