FIELD: polymer materials. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to novel amphiphilic associative cationic polyurethanes represented by formula I: R-X-(P)n-[L-(Y)m]r-L′-(P′)p-X′-R′, where R and R' denote hydrophobic group or hydrogen atom; X and X' denote group containing amino function optionally bearing hydrophobic group or L" group; groups L, L', L" are diisocyanate derivatives; P and P' denote group containing amino function optionally bearing hydrophobic group; Y denotes hydrophilic group; r is integer from 1 to 1000, preferably 1 to 25; and n, m, and p are numbers from 0 to 1000. Molecule further contains at least one protonated or quaternized amino function and at least one hydrophobic group. Invention discloses use polyurethanes I as thickeners in cosmetic compositions. Proposed polyurethanes show high affinity for keratin materials and are particularly fit to cosmetic composition for topical administration. EFFECT: expanded application possibilities. 13 cl, 4 ex
