FIELD: papermaking. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to manufacturing filled types of printing paper, e.g., offset paper or newsprint. Calcium carbonate is treated with carboxymethylcellulose at stirring in aqueous medium in presence of sodium sulfate and sodium chloride 1:1 to 1:3 mixture taken in amount 2.8-3.0% of the weight of absolutely dry carboxymethylcellulose. Treated calcium carbonate is mixed with suspension of pulp and sizing agent in aqueous medium, said sizing agent being colophony glue modified with alpha, beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds and polyatomic alcohol. EFFECT: improved printing properties of alkaline paper due to increased retention of modified filler ensuring good closeness of sheet and reduced sliding factor. 4 cl, 1 tbl, 7 ex
