FIELD: electrical engineering; low-pressure fluorescent lamps, high-pressure mercury-vapor lamps, and low-pressure sodium-vapor lamps. SUBSTANCE: device designed to start and regulate operation of gas-discharge lamps that enables connection of n lamps simultaneously, stepless regulation of luminous intensity of lamps, automatic regulation of the latter depending on outside illumination, stabilization of luminous intensity in case of impact of external factors, protection against overheating of device components and against overcurrent, protection of power component against overvoltage, introduction of stand-by duty of lamps that enhances brightness when any person occurs nearby has dc power supply and inverter whose common input is connected to common output of dc power supply. Newly introduced in device are converter and two rectifiers; novelty is also that output of dc power supply is connected through series interconnected converter and first rectifier to inverter input, second output of converter is connected through second rectifier to second input of inverter and to second input of converter, common output of dc power supply is connected to common inputs of converter and of both rectifiers, and two outputs of inverter function as device outputs whereto n series- interconnected lamps are connected; converter has three resistors, variable resistor, thermistor, two transistors, field-effect transistor, and four-winding transformer; inverter has pulse generator, diode, field-effect transistor, and four-winding transformer.
