FIELD: mechanical engineering; thermal treatment of pipe lines of weld seams. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes heating of articles by means of detachable muffle electric infra-red radiation heaters followed by cooling. Electric heaters are placed over entire length of article and are grouped in thermal zones. Supply voltage is fed to thermal zones simultaneously. Heating is continued till required temperature has been obtained; cooling is performed separately for each section. Supply voltage is regulated depending on rate of cooling. Device proposed for realization of this method includes detachable muffle electric infra-red radiation heaters; each detachable part is made in form of radiator with insulating gasket enclosed in box-shaped metal casing and is connected to power source by means of actuating power units. Detachable parts are provided with centering stops and are interconnected in pairs and are connected to self-contained power source in series or in parallel.
