FIELD: knitting equipment. SUBSTANCE: actuating mechanism has cam supporting surface 2 facing needle supporting member 3 and at least one supporting drop cam 4 having contour 5 arranged at an angle to direction of advancement of needle supporting member 3 relative to cam supporting surface 2. This contour is engageable with sole of needles or needle pushing members protruding from needle supporting member 3 toward cam supporting surface 2. Drop cam 4 rests upon cam supporting surface 2 so as to rotate around first axis substantially perpendicular to surface of part of needle supporting member 3, which is facing in any case to cam supporting surface 2 and may pivot about first axis upon issuing of command for changing of inclination angle of contour 5 with respect to advancement direction. EFFECT: increased operating speed of machine, in particular, in case of knitting of short loop articles, and provision for using of said mechanism in different type of hosiery machines. 6 cl, 5 dwg
