FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method for preparing formaldehyde. Method involves oxidative dehydrogenation of methanol with air oxygen at high temperature on silver-containing catalyst in reactor with vertical shell-and-tube heat exchanger comprising tube plates with tubes strengthened in them followed by absorption of prepared reaction gases to form methanolic formalin and further rectification. Catalyst in reactor is placed so that distance from tube plate of shell-and-tube heat exchanger up to the catalyst layer surface is to be 1.0-10.0 cm. Method provides reducing the formation of by-side products and to enhance selectivity of process. EFFECT: improved preparing method. 1 dwg, 3 ex
