FIELD: agriculture, in particular, milking units. SUBSTANCE: method involves measuring length of teat pipe part restricted with sucker base and lower edge of annular slot third from sucker, at site where teat pipe joins to milk pipe; fixing weight adapted for determining of teat pipe rigidity in teat pipe slot first from sucker; detecting defective teat pipes on the basis of total length of teat part of teat pipe and extension; considering teat pipes having said total length equal to or exceeding 198 mm defective; grouping remaining teat pipes by rigidity, with first group including teat pipes having said total length equal to or smaller than 183 mm, second group - teat pipes having said total in the range of 183-188 mm and third group - teat pipes having said total length in the range of 188-193 mm. Teat pipes of one group are mounted in one milking unit, with allowable total sum difference not in the excess of 5 mm. Time for determining excessive length of teat pipe is less than 5 s. EFFECT: increased efficiency. 2 cl, 1 dwg
