FIELD: prevention of breakdown of pumping units at oil fields. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes measurement of momentary magnitudes of current and voltage at input of pumping unit electric drive. Then, present magnitudes of current and voltage are determined and first harmonic (A1(s)) and second harmonic (A2(S)) of total power are extracted and their relationship K21 = [A2(S)/A1(S)]; is determined. Counter-balanced state is determined from condition K21≥K21Э, where K21Э is reference magnitude of coefficient for given oil well.
