FIELD: industrial organic synthesis.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to improved process for dehydration of formaldehyde solution containing formaldehyde, water, and methanol, which process comprises indicated formaldehyde solution in presence of water-scavenging to give formaldehyde-containing product with much lower water level than in initial solution. More particularly, methanol/formaldehyde molar ratio in initial formaldehyde solution is (0.3-1.5):1 and product contains formaldehyde in the form of its complex with methanol. Invention also relates to methylmethacrylate production process via reaction of formaldehyde with methyl propionate in presence of methanol and appropriate catalyst, formaldehyde being used in the form of formaldehyde-containing product with methanol obtained by distillation of formaldehyde solution containing formaldehyde, water, and methanol at methanol/formaldehyde molar ratio (0.3-1.5):1 in presence of methyl propionate, complex, formaldehyde-containing product with methanol having water level much lower than indicated formaldehyde solution. Invention further relates to above-defined formaldehyde-containing product in the form of complex with methanol obtained by distillation of formaldehyde solution in presence of water-scavenging compound.

EFFECT: enabled preparation of formaldehyde raw material for production of methylmethacrylate with reduced water level.
