FIELD: nuclear power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: device has spring retainer extractor placed past γ-ray absorption inspection unit and used to remove spring retainers from open end of charged fuel-element can. Extractor is made so that it is free to turn about its axis and to move in axial direction for pushing rod in wedged section of spring retainer in fuel element can. Mentioned rod has helical groove on its length greater than that of spring retainer section wedged in fuel element can, its turns being unidirectional with those of spring retainer. Width and depth of helical groove are sufficient for engaging spring retainer turns. Turn pitch of helical groove is greater than that of spring retainer wedging section.
EFFECT: enhanced yield of fuel pellets and can upon removal of spring retainer from the latter.
