FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: according to proposed method, sealing and oil control rings are installed in ring grooves on piston crown higher than piston pin. Minimum designed number of ring grooves is found from equation Zmin=3,512+1,656lnPi where Pi is mean indicated pressure in engine cylinder, MPa. Two additional grooves are made on piston crown into which first minimum designed number of sealing rings is fitted equal to Zmin. One of rings featuring oil control properties, is installed after two additional grooves, and additional new sealing rings are installed in additional grooves in turn at following inspections.
EFFECT: improved efficiency and increased service life of ring seal without increasing cost of production and service.
