SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for preparing 4,4'-azobis-(4-cyanopentanoic acid) used as an initiating agent in radical polymerization reaction. Method for preparing 4,4'-azobis-(4-cyanopentanoic acid) involves interaction of levulinic acid with hydrocyanic acid or its salts and hydrazine derivatives followed by oxidation of intermediate 4,4'-hydrazo-(4-cyanopentanoic acid) in acid medium. Oxidation is carried out at temperature from 10oC to 25oC and pH = 1 in the presence of bromine or bromine or iodine compounds using hydrogen peroxide or alkaline or earth-alkaline metal hypochlorite. In oxidation with hydrogen peroxide method involves additional using catalysts taken among the group of tungsten, vanadium or molybdenum. Method provides simplifying the apparatus assurance of the process and provides the possibility for organization of the industrial manufacturing the end product.
